Description

This demolition grab is a modular, multi-purpose excavator attachment designed to handle a wide spread of demolition tasks by swapping out jaw kits on a single main body. Instead of committing to one fixed jaw profile, the same carrier frame can be configured for gripping, crushing, processing reinforced concrete, and cutting duties, so operators can move from structural breakup to material reduction and rebar management with the same attachment platform. The unit is built to be positioned precisely at the workface, using a reinforced rotation system with adjustable rotation speed to line the jaws up cleanly on walls, slabs, beams, and loose debris.

Joe Hughes

Sales Manager

I joined Approved Hydraulics in November 2014 at the age of 18, starting as a Stores Apprentice with responsibility for stock control, goods management, and purchasing support. This role gave me a strong grounding in our products, processes, and the operational side of the business.

In 2017, I transitioned into a full-time sales position and have been actively involved in day-to-day sales activities ever since, supporting customers, managing enquiries, and developing product and commercial knowledge across our range.

In 2025, I was promoted to Sales Manager. In this role, I lead a team of six sales colleagues and oversee the daily operations of the sales function, ensuring customer enquiries are handled efficiently, service standards are maintained, and the team continues to deliver consistent results and strong customer relationships.

Why Choose the CMB MD Pulveriser?

Structurally, it’s engineered like a heavy-duty “core + wear package” tool: a high-strength main frame paired with abrasion-resistant jaw components and robust pivot hardware. The frame is made from Strenx 700-grade steel, while the jaws are specified in Hardox 450 to resist gouging and wear when biting into concrete and handling rubble. Working joints are supported by hardened pins and steel bushings to keep the jaw alignment tight under repeated shock loads. Hydraulics are arranged with full protection around key components, and a speed valve is included to improve cycle responsiveness during repetitive open/close work.

The key to its versatility is the interchangeable jaw system: the main body accepts different kits that tailor the bite geometry to the job. A combi-style kit is suited to mixed demolition where you want a blend of gripping and processing capability, while a primary-demolition jaw kit focuses on secure hold and controlled breakage of heavier sections. A dedicated demolition/processing kit is shaped for crunching and downsizing concrete and helping separate embedded steel as the material is worked. Finally, a shear-oriented kit brings the attachment closer to cutting behavior for handling reinforcement and metal encountered during demolition and sorting.

Hydraulically, it’s intended for mid-to-large carriers: excavator class coverage is shown from roughly 15–20 tons up to about 35–50 tons depending on model, with a typical working pressure around 350 bar and oil flow requirements that scale by size (about 140–320 l/min). Rotation is driven separately at around 120 bar with modest flow (roughly 15–20 l/min), supporting controlled positioning rather than demanding high auxiliary flow. In terms of output, the jaw sets are rated for very high crushing/clamping forces (with top-end figures reaching into the hundreds of tons) and are specified to handle steel bar diameters up to roughly 70 mm on the larger sizes—making the tool well suited to both breaking concrete and dealing with reinforcement during demolition and on-site processing.

Main Features

  • Interchangeable jaw kits on a single main frame for job-to-job versatility.
  • Reinforced rotation system with adjustable rotation speed for precise positioning.
  • High-strength / wear-resistant build: frame in Strenx 700 and jaws in Hardox 450.
  • Durability + protection features: hardened pins and bushings, fully protected hydraulic components, plus a speed valve for faster cycling.

Maintenance FAQs

Best practices for keeping your hydraulic system running efficiently.

How do you check oil condition?

Visual inspection for discoloration, foaming, or particles

Lab analysis provides a detailed breakdown of contamination, viscosity, acidity, and wear metals

This helps determine oil life and potential system issues.

How do you dispose of hydraulic oil?

Collect used oil in approved containers

Take it to a licensed waste oil recycling or disposal facility

Never pour it into drains or the environment — it’s illegal and harmful.

How do you prevent contamination?

Use sealed containers and clean tools

Always clean hose ends and fittings before connecting

Install high-quality filtration on return lines and reservoirs

Avoid opening the system unnecessarily

How do you store hydraulic hoses?

In a clean, dry, and cool environment

Away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and ozone-producing equipment

Preferably stored horizontally on racks to prevent kinking or deformation

How often should filters be changed?

At regular service intervals or when a clogging indicator signals high restriction. It’s best to change filters before they reach full capacity to avoid bypassing dirty fluid.

How often should hydraulic oil be changed?

Typically every 2,000 operating hours, or as recommended by the equipment manufacturer. Factors like system cleanliness, load, and temperature can influence intervals. Always verify with oil analysis if unsure.

What is a breather cap?

A breather cap allows air to enter or exit the reservoir as fluid levels change, without letting contaminants in. Some include filters to trap airborne particles or moisture.

What is preventive maintenance in hydraulics?

Scheduled checks and service tasks (e.g., inspecting hoses, changing filters, checking oil) to prevent unexpected failures, extend system life, and reduce downtime.

What tools are used in hydraulic diagnostics?

Pressure gauges to check line pressure

Flow meters to measure flow rate

Infrared thermometers or thermal cameras to detect hotspots

Ultrasonic leak detectors to find air or fluid leaks

Test kits for oil sampling

Why should systems be flushed?

Flushing removes contaminants like metal shavings, dirt, or water — especially important after repairs, system assembly, or oil changes. It helps prevent premature wear and failures.
